Throughout United States history, the allure of adventure and new opportunity has drawn people to the west coast. Pioneers braved the Oregon Trail, forty-niners made their way to San Francisco and aspiring movie stars voyaged to Hollywood.
Citrix is getting in on the game by taking Synergy, the company's annual conference, back to Anaheim, Calif., this year. Citrix Synergy 2018 will be held May 8-10 and should hold plenty of developments for Citrix and its stable of products, including XenDesktop and XenApp, XenMobile and more.
Whether you're following in the footsteps of those who have ventured west or will be keeping track at home, take a look at this list of the top 10 sessions to look forward to at Citrix Synergy 2018.
Demystifying Linux VDI: How to deliver Linux virtual desktops on demand
Traditionally, delivering virtual Linux desktops has not been an easy task because there simply aren't a lot of options for doing so. Citrix's Linux Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) is one of those options.
In this Citrix Synergy 2018 session, a real-life VDA administrator will detail his organization's experience using the tool to deliver Linux virtual desktops and applications. He will cover the improvements in user experience, security and compliance.
Attendees will also learn how to manage both Linux and Windows desktops in the same deployment.
Citrix Cloud for security and access
The lead architect of an organization that suffered a serious ransomware attack will cover how his team worked to assuage security concerns around the corporate network following the incident.
He will detail the tools organizations can use to prevent such an attack, including working with Citrix Workspace Service to create and manage containers in public clouds and to protect remote access for third-party workers accessing a corporate network.
Active-active datacenters with App Layering and App-V
Application layering is still on the ground floor in terms of adoption, but its ability to separate the app from the OS itself, while still taking advantage of the operating system's native capabilities, is promising.
An organization's senior consulting engineer will cover how his company used Citrix App Layering to meet the goal of enabling 40% of its workforce to be remote. The company had to address issues surrounding global server load balancing (GSLB) and follow content management system compliance standards.
In addition, attendees will hear how the IT team at this company managed all the different user profiles and applications across their data centers without sacrificing availability.
The naked truth: CTPs investigate Citrix Cloud performance
Citrix Cloud services can simplify management for IT by giving it the power to deliver the resources users need, including desktops and apps, from a single management console. And it can be hosted in a public cloud, private cloud or on premises.

This session will also include best practices for creating a Citrix Cloud deployment.
Scalability planning and design
Any IT professional working with virtual desktops and applications has faced questions about how many concurrent users their deployment can handle or dealt with challenges around peak usage times. This session will help answer those questions by diving into scalability planning.
In this Citrix Synergy 2018 session, find out key information, including how much hardware a deployment really needs, how to avoid over-subscriptions and the tools to turn to for help.
Delivering high availability in a hybrid cloud architecture for XenApp and XenDesktop
Many organizations want to move to the cloud, but they cannot fully commit because they have issues such as apps that aren't a fit. In this session, attendees will get the scoop on creating a hybrid cloud that supports XenDesktop and XenApp with the use of NetScaler, GSLB, optimal routing and more.
The presenter will also cover how to use Citrix Cloud services to centrally manage XenApp and XenDesktop VDAs, as well as how to maintain high availability for virtual desktops and applications.
Citrix in the cloud: Real-world experiences creating and deploying cloud-hosted Citrix environments
Get a crystalized view of the cloud by hearing some real-world migration stories. The presenters will cover the good, the bad and the ugly of a cloud migration, while also exploring a hybrid Citrix Cloud deployment.
Attendees will also learn how the Citrix Cloud control plane can help them and where it might need a little work. In addition, they will find out how they can use automation to make their migration smooth.
