Wyse gives IT access to virtual desktops via iPhone
Wyse Technology Inc. launched the iPhone app PocketCloud on Thursday, which provides IT administrators with access to virtual desktops remotely through an Apple iPhone or iPod touch.
PocketCloud uses an implementation of Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 6.0 to connect and communicate with virtual or physical machines, so administrators managing large numbers of client systems can access end-user machines via their iPhones.
PocketCloud accesses any infrastructure that supports the Microsoft RDP protocol and supports the VMware View 3.1 connection broker in direct and tunneling modes. SSL is supported in both cases, and the 1.0 release has experimental support for RSA 2-factor authentication.
Wyse PocketCloud integrates into an already established VMware View host environment and does not require special setup or software installed.PocketCloud also connects to Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista Business, Windows 7 and Terminal Services features in Windows Server products.
PocketCloud is available in the business section of Apple's App Store for $29.99. Wyse will demonstrat the product at VMworld 2009 next week.
Leostream Connection Broker now supports Hyper-V R2
Leostream Corp. added desktop virtualization support for Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V in its Connection Broker 6.2 product, the company said this week.
The Leostream Connection Broker 6.2 is deployed as a virtual appliance and ties desktop images in the data center to thin client, laptop, workstation, and Web interfaces. Additionally, the new connection broker integrates with existing network infrastructure with minimal change required.
The connection broker also provides native installation on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V or Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 hypervisor; and native support for Hyper-V based virtual machines. It also supports Windows 7, the new remote desktop protocol (RDP) 7 and a number of new policy features.
Leostream will demonstrate the new Microsoft features and functions at VMworld 2009.
